Book; Born in 1956? What else happened? - Ron Williams

This is  a series of books about life in Australia – one for each year from 1939. They describe happenings that affected people, real people. The whole series, to coin a modern phrase, is designed to push your buttons, to make you remember and wonder at things forgotten.

The books might just let nostalgia see the light of day, so that oldies and youngies will talk about the past and re-discover a heritage otherwise forgotten. Hopefully, they will spark discussions between generations, and foster the asking and answering of questions that should not remain unanswered.

In 1956, the first big issue was the Suez crisis, which put our own Bob Menzies on the world stage, but he got no applause. TV was turned on in time for the Melbourne Olympics, Hungary was invaded and the Iron Curtain got a lot thicker. There was much concern about cruelty to sharks, and the horrors of country pubs persisted.

Nice present idea.

As this is a gift, I have only glanced through the book. It looks very interesting but a few pictures would might make it more meaningful.
I still like the idea of having a book with my year of birth.

No Pics!

I thought that there would be photos included in the book. I was disappointed there were no images accompanying the text.

Very Basic

I was expecting at very least a few photos or pictures. Would not recommend or purchase again.

I purchased two 1955 books and one 1956

I'm reasonably happy with the books. The information in them is terrific so not complaining about that. I just felt there would be many more photo's. They are for gifts and would be nice to just flick through a book and reminicise with pictures a bit more. I'm sure they will be well received though. Thank you.,

Bit disappointed

I thought there would have also been pictures like on the front cover. Felt I bit misled.
