When I first started writing a weekly nostalgia column for the Boomer magazine in the Advertiser, I had no idea that it would still be going strong in 2021. And that over the years I would discover so many remarkable and significant stories to tell about Adelaide.
Although we are still a very young capital and might not be seen to have as colourful a past as other cities, for one so young and so small, we punch well above our weight when it comes to a fascinating history.
The stories range from the post-war period up until the 1980s, or what is considered to be, ‘in living memory’ and dubbed the Baby Boomer years. That period was a most exciting time for our city and state as we emerged from a mainly rural-based economy into a powerhouse of manufacturing and innovation.
Adelaide Remember When: The Boomer Stories is a volume of reminiscences but also of discovery, childhood memories and a recognition of some of the great achievements that have occurred in our beloved city - it's a celebration of the Adelaide we knew growing up.
