Peace, Love and War
This is the story of Australia's most turbulent and transformative decade through the eyes of the people who lived through it. From the fall of a government to the fall of a space station, this nostalgic and historic journey captures what life was really like for ordinary Australians during the 1970s.

From fish and chips wrapped in newspaper to the arrival of fast food, from red phone boxes to colour television, these are the stories of a nation finding its voice. Relive the drama of the Whitlam years and the Dismissal that divided a country, the shock of Granville and the heartbreak of the Montreal Olympics, the thrill of Countdown on a Saturday night, and the revolution Kerry Packer brought to cricket under floodlights. Meet the butchers, the tea ladies, the kids who roamed free until the streetlights came on, and the Vietnamese families who arrived with nothing and built everything.

Whether you were born in the 1970s or grew up, went to school, got your first job, got married and started a family, this is your story, these are your memories. Through personal memories and carefully researched stories, this book brings to life the decade that changed Australia forever — when we went metric, went colour, found our voice, and grew up.

Remembering the 70s.

I loved my book. Aptly titled Remember When because that’s exactly what the book did for me. The 70s were good to me so it gave me an opportunity to relive some of those times. Thanks for putting all the memories together. Highly recommended. Well done. Thanks again.

Fantastic! So many memories flooded back

Fantastic! So many memories flooded back. I was 19 years old in 1970 until December when I celebrated my 20th. Such a busy, busy fun time of my life.
Meet my future husband mid 1969, engaged December 1971 and married January 1973..... My partner was conscripted for the Vietnam War into the Army and served 1972 & '73.
Thank God for Gough Whitlam being elected as the Labour Prime Minister and put an end to Australia's participation and withdrew our Servicemen. Thankfully it happened as my husband's group dodge a massive bullet and we're able to miss Vietnam altogether!
